How To Attract Your Dream Team
By Dr. Joey Faucette
In two different coaching conversations, I was asked the same two questions: “How do you do everything you do?” and “Who is the ‘we’ you keep referring to?”
Both questions are about productivity. Both have the same answer: team.
In coaching leaders and owners to Work Positive, I’ve learned that the number one predictor of success is their ability to release their own ego needs to “do everything” and attract the right persons to the team. They leverage relationships with talented teammates by focusing them on the positive core practices of the company’s reason for existing.
So how do you attract such teammates?
Here are 3 Positive Traits to Attract Your Dream Team
Core Values
Core values are those inner beliefs which guide you. They magnetize behavior in best directions.
Values such as integrity, honesty, love, compassion, intellectual pursuit, and fairness form the core within. You attract team based on your core values. You dislike in others those qualities which you dislike about yourself. Part of this reality is because you attract them from those qualities within.
For your productivity to exponentially increase, refining your own core values to what Covey referred to as “due north” is essential. Wishing your team had other core values doesn’t Work Positive. First, clarify and align your own core values from who you are to who you desire to be. Then, attract your dream team from those values for maximum productivity.
Priorities and Your Dream Team
Priorities are about really important work tasks. Your behavior follows an innate sense of priority.
For instance, if work is a priority for you to the exclusion of lunch or bathroom breaks, you lead from a place of busyness rather than intentional focus on strategic activities which develop business. Your team will have their individual heads down, but doing what? Anything to appear busy rather than working collaboratively on important company priorities.
Where do you place greater priority—customer/client relationships with long-term value or immediate profit? You attract team who either create remarkable experiences or churn through customers/clients.
Your priorities attract team of similar priorities. Increase productivity by establishing your own best priorities first. Then go find the dream team who reflects them.
The Dream Team Contribution
Setting aside your own ego needs to do everything is a monumental task for dream team high-performers. You could define yourself by what you do and how much of it gets done. That’s fantastic to a point…and that point is the wall you hit that limits business growth.
Perhaps you can do everything, but not all at once.
As a leader, ask yourself, “What is my unique contribution to this business?” Narrow that list down to a few integral tasks, including influencing the team to focus on the company’s positive core practices that increase productivity and profitability. Then make your unique contribution, empower the team to do the same, and enjoy your skyrocketing productivity.
As your sales increase with greater team productivity, prepare to hear, “How do you do everything you do?” and “Who is the ‘we’ you keep referring to?”
Believe me. It’s a great question to receive.
